Drive Through Oak Creek Canyon

Often called the smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon is a scenic 12-to-15-mile river gorge between Flagstaff and Sedona that follows Arizona Route 89A. It’s a beautiful introduction to fall foliage in Sedona, AZ, where maples, sycamores, and cottonwoods bring shades of gold and orange to the landscape.

Take your time along the route, stopping at designated viewpoints to enjoy the vistas and breathe in the crisp autumn air. While the 2026 Pocket Fire affected parts of the landscape, Oak Creek Canyon still offers striking red rock scenery and stretches of colorful autumn foliage as the area continues to recover.

Farther north, Oak Creek Vista offers a sweeping panorama from the canyon’s rim toward the Mogollon Rim. From this vantage point, the scale of the landscape comes into view, offering a different perspective on the colors below.

Take advantage of Ambiente’s Destinations by Lexus partnership for convenient transportation around Sedona. Guests have access to Lexus house vehicles for complimentary hourly rentals, as well as the Lexus test drive experience, to explore Sedona in style.

Hike Fay Canyon Trail

When you’re ready to stretch your legs, embark on the 2.3-mile out-and-back hike along Fay Canyon. Located in West Sedona, the trailhead begins off Boynton Pass Road, with a dedicated parking area just a short drive from Ambiente, a Landscape Hotel.

This flat, gentle trail winds along the canyon floor, sheltered beneath towering sandstone cliffs and a surprisingly lush canopy of trees. If you’re exploring Sedona, Arizona, in October, the shade and colorful foliage make this one of the most accessible and enjoyable ways to experience the season. Keep an eye out for a short, unmarked side trail about halfway through that leads up to the hidden Fay Canyon Arch.

For a quieter experience, consider visiting on a weekday morning, as parking fills quickly. Before setting out, pack plenty of water and sunscreen, and dress in layers for cool starts and warmer afternoons. Rain is possible during autumn, so bring a light rain jacket and wear sturdy walking shoes for navigating any rocky sections along the path.

Each of Ambiente’s 40 freestanding, cube-shaped glass Atriums sits on steel piers above the desert floor, offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Settle onto the daybed for two and enjoy the warmth of the gas fire pit as the desert sky darkens overhead.

As the air cools and the stars emerge, your Atrium becomes a place to reconnect with the stillness of the landscape. Enjoy seasonal, Verde Valley-inspired fare at Forty1, Ambiente’s on-site restaurant, or have food and drinks delivered to your Atrium for a relaxed evening beneath the stars.

Autumn is a popular time to visit Sedona, so be sure to book your stay in advance. For the best chance to see fall foliage at its peak, plan your visit between mid-October and early November. Days are generally mild, with temperatures reaching around 75–80°F, while evenings bring a noticeable chill, perfect for wrapping up in a blanket on your private rooftop daybed.
